S-Mount

S-mount is an advanced top control variation of mount in which one knee is positioned high near the opponent’s head while the other leg anchors near their hip. This posture increases leverage for submissions like armbars, kimuras, and collar chokes. The "S" shape of the legs creates an elevated angle, enhancing control and making escapes extremely difficult.

This position is highly offensive-oriented, allowing the practitioner to maintain top pressure while threatening multiple submission lines simultaneously. S-mount is commonly used in IBJJF gi competitions but also has utility in no-gi formats.

The position teaches practitioners the importance of weight distribution, leg placement, and fine motor control. Competitors often transition in and out of S-mount fluidly to maintain dominance and capitalize on openings for finishes.
