Leg Drag Control

Leg drag control is a dominant guard passing position where the top player controls an opponent’s leg and drags it across their body. This position neutralizes the bottom player’s guard, often breaking posture and limiting their ability to execute sweeps or submissions. From here, the top player can transition to side control, mount, or back control with minimal resistance.

The leg drag is a staple in modern no-gi BJJ because it allows efficient movement and positional dominance against larger or more athletic opponents. It also opens opportunities for submissions such as kimuras, chokes, or straight armlocks as the opponent’s base is compromised.

Competitors emphasize tight control and proper angles when applying the leg drag, as even small gaps can allow the bottom player to recover half guard or establish inverted positions. It exemplifies BJJ’s principle of controlling space and leverage over brute strength.
