Open Guard Frame

The open guard frame builds on open guard by emphasizing arm frames to maintain distance and manage the opponent’s posture. Frames create structural leverage, helping the bottom player prevent pressure, prepare sweeps, or set up submissions.

This position is particularly effective in no-gi grappling, where sleeve grips are absent, and arm control becomes critical. Proper framing allows for greater defensive security while opening offensive options like triangles, armbars, and sweeps.

Open guard framing teaches practitioners to use structure and leverage over strength, reinforcing one of BJJ’s fundamental principles: positional control as the foundation for attack.
