Reverse De La Riva Guard

Reverse De La Riva guard mirrors the classic De La Riva setup, with the hook placed on the opposite side. This variation allows the bottom player to control and manipulate the opponent differently, often opening pathways for sweeps, back takes, or leg entanglements.

It is particularly effective in no-gi grappling, providing angles that disrupt balance and posture while limiting the opponent’s ability to pass guard. Grips, hooks, and timing are essential for leveraging control in this position.

Reverse De La Riva demonstrates the adaptability of modern guard systems, showing how slight adjustments in hook and body orientation create entirely new offensive and defensive opportunities.
