Side Control Escape — Underhook Escapes (Standard, Hip, and Roll)
Underhooks are critical tools for controlling the opponent while escaping. Establishing an underhook allows the defender to create leverage to either slide the hips out (underhook hip escape) or reverse the opponent via a roll (underhook roll). The standard underhook escape focuses on using the underhook to disengage and recover guard, giving the bottom player options to transition into offensive positions. Underhooks combined with frames and hip movement maximize both space creation and control, which is particularly important against heavier or more aggressive opponents.
