BJJ Gi

The BJJ gi is the traditional uniform for training and competition in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It consists of a reinforced jacket, drawstring pants, and a belt indicating rank. Cut, weave, and weight vary by brand and purpose—lightweight gis favor competition and hot climates, while heavier weaves enhance durability and grip resistance.

Fit matters: sleeves and pant legs should allow mobility without excess fabric for opponents to grab. Many competitions have strict measurements for sleeve length, pant length, and patch placement, so athletes often keep a “competition gi” tailored to regulation standards. Proper care—cold wash, hang dry—extends life and helps prevent shrinkage.
