Kimura from Guard

The Kimura from guard is a shoulder lock that applies rotational pressure to the shoulder joint by controlling both the wrist and elbow. From guard, it allows the bottom player to threaten an opponent while maintaining defensive control.

This version can be used to sweep the opponent or transition into other attacks, such as armbars or shoulder locks. The key is isolating the opponent’s far arm and controlling posture to prevent counters. It is effective in both gi and no-gi contexts and highlights the Kimura’s versatility as both a submission and positional control tool.
