D’Arce Choke
The D’Arce choke is a no-gi and gi-friendly submission where one arm threads under the opponent’s neck and across their arm, locking into the armpit and securing a figure-four configuration. By squeezing and adjusting body angles, the attacker compresses the carotid arteries to force a tap.
Highly effective during scrambles or against sprawls, the D’Arce choke allows for quick transitions from failed takedowns or top control. Proper technique involves tight arm placement, chest pressure, and rotation to prevent the opponent from posturing up and escaping.
Advanced grapplers often chain the D’Arce into other submissions, such as guillotines or Brabo chokes, depending on the opponent’s defense. Its efficiency, versatility, and applicability in both gi and no-gi make it a go-to submission for modern competitors.
