Arm Triangle Choke

The arm triangle choke is a classic blood choke where the attacker traps one of the opponent’s arms against their neck while applying pressure with their head and arms to constrict blood flow. Often executed from side control or mount, it is highly effective for finishing larger opponents using proper technique and positioning rather than brute strength.

This choke emphasizes control of the opponent’s posture and the correct angle of pressure. By keeping the opponent flat and threading the arm across the neck, the attacker can apply consistent compression on the carotid arteries, leading to a tap. Arm triangles are valued for their adaptability, as they can be initiated from numerous positions including mount, side control, and even guard.

In sport and MMA, the arm triangle is favored for its dual role in positional dominance and submission threat. Advanced practitioners use it as part of combination sequences, flowing from shoulder pressure, pinning systems, or guard passes into a finish.
