Arm-In Guillotine Choke
The arm-in guillotine is a variation of the guillotine choke where one of the opponent’s arms is trapped alongside their neck. This variation adds leverage and increases choking efficiency by limiting the opponent’s ability to defend or post.
Applied often during takedown defenses or scrambles, the arm-in guillotine requires precise grip positioning and control of the opponent’s body. The attacker can finish the choke from guard, half guard, or even standing positions, making it a versatile tool in both gi and no-gi competition.
Practitioners often chain the arm-in guillotine to other submissions, such as transitioning to a triangle or armbar if the opponent defends. The additional arm in the choke can increase control, reduce the chance of counters, and enhance the effectiveness of the finishing mechanics.
