Rafael Mendes (b. 1989) is one of the most innovative featherweights in BJJ, celebrated for his technical creativity and dominance alongside his brother Guilherme. Known for refining modern guard systems such as the berimbolo and De La Riva, Rafael pushed the boundaries of strategic guard play.

As co-founder of Art of Jiu-Jitsu (AOJ) Academy, he has also become a leading coach, shaping the next generation of competitors through a structured, detail-oriented teaching methodology.
