Alessandra “Leka” Vieira

Alessandra Vieira, commonly known as Leka Vieira (b. 1970s), is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of women’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She became the first-ever female black-belt world champion in 1999 and played a key role in establishing competitive opportunities for women in BJJ.

Vieira’s success and advocacy for female participation helped legitimize women’s divisions and inspired a generation of female practitioners. Her contributions extend beyond competition, encompassing teaching, seminars, and mentorship.
