BJJ in Prison Rehabilitation Programs

In some regions, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been introduced as part of prison rehabilitation initiatives. The discipline, respect, and physical exertion required by the art provide inmates with a constructive outlet and an opportunity to build self-control.

While such programs are still relatively rare, case studies suggest that BJJ can reduce aggression and foster community within correctional facilities. The martial art’s focus on humility and problem-solving on the mat often translates to improved behavior outside of training.
