Positional Sparring

Positional sparring begins in a set position—such as mount, side control, or guard—to isolate specific escapes, controls, or submissions. By narrowing the scope of training, athletes can focus on key skills without relying on luck or flow of a full roll.

This method develops both offensive and defensive reactions under pressure, building confidence in situations that frequently occur in live sparring. It is a proven way to refine problem-solving and situational awareness.
