Hip Escape Drill
The hip escape drill, often called shrimping, is one of the most fundamental movements in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. By practicing sliding the hips away from an opponent, athletes create space for guard recovery, escapes, or defensive positioning.
This drill builds core strength, mobility, and coordination while reinforcing the habit of never staying flat under pressure. It is a cornerstone of both beginner and advanced training, as effective hip movement underpins nearly every defensive and offensive sequence in grappling.
