Scissor Sweep
The Scissor Sweep is a fundamental guard sweep that uses a scissoring motion of the legs to off-balance and flip the opponent. From closed or open guard, the practitioner positions one leg across the opponent’s torso while the other leg pushes against their thigh or hip. Combined with proper upper-body grips, the scissor motion disrupts the opponent’s base, allowing the practitioner to roll them over and establish top control. This sweep is a cornerstone technique for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
