Momentum and Flow

Momentum and flow refer to using continuous movement to maintain positional control, transition between techniques, or execute sweeps and submissions efficiently. Rather than pausing after each move, a practitioner maintains fluid motion to keep the opponent off-balance and reactive.

Flow-based grappling reduces energy expenditure and increases reaction speed. Techniques become more difficult to counter when combined into chains, as the opponent must respond to a dynamic sequence instead of isolated actions. This principle underpins high-level rolling and competition strategy, where smooth transitions often determine positional dominance.
