Penalties for Stalling

Stalling is one of the most common penalties in BJJ competition. Referees look for inactivity, refusal to engage, or holding positions without attempting progression. Penalties can range from warnings to point deductions, and repeated offenses may lead to disqualification.

Competitors must stay active, even from dominant positions, by working toward submissions or transitions. Active engagement not only avoids penalties but also creates more opportunities to win.
