North-South Choke / North-South Kimura

The north-south choke applies shoulder and arm pressure from the north-south position to cut off blood flow to the opponent’s head. By controlling the opponent’s torso and positioning their own body correctly, the attacker can apply an efficient and tight choke while limiting escape options.

The north-south Kimura similarly uses this position to isolate the opponent’s shoulder, applying rotational torque to force a tap. Both submissions emphasize the importance of positioning, weight distribution, and control, making them effective from top-dominant scenarios.

These attacks illustrate the versatility of north-south as a positional base, allowing athletes to maintain control while threatening multiple submission options. They are particularly effective against defensive opponents or during transitional scrambles.
