Ezekiel Choke / Ezekiel from Mount

The Ezekiel choke uses the sleeve and forearm to create a choking pressure, often applied from inside the opponent’s guard or from mount. Its signature feature is that the attacker’s own sleeve wraps around the opponent’s neck, producing a tight constriction without requiring complicated grips.

From mount, the Ezekiel choke becomes even more dominant: the attacker can control the opponent’s posture while threading the sleeve around the neck, limiting escape options. It is a staple in gi BJJ but can also be adapted for no-gi using arm positioning alone.

The Ezekiel is particularly effective against opponents who leave their head and neck exposed during defensive maneuvers. High-level grapplers often chain it with mount attacks or transition to arm locks if the choke fails, making it both a submission and positional tool.
