Back Escape — Shoulder Shrimp / Sliding Escape

Shrimping the shoulders or sliding hips away from the opponent’s control are subtle but effective escapes. By shifting the shoulders and hips laterally, the defender can disengage the hooks, reduce chest-to-back contact, and create angles for turning into the opponent. These movements are low-risk and high-precision, allowing the defender to maintain awareness of submissions while slowly regaining control.

The shoulder shrimp and sliding escapes emphasize efficiency and safety, especially in high-level competition where overcommitting can lead to chokes. They also reinforce the concept that positional escapes are often a series of incremental adjustments rather than a single explosive movement.
