Back Escape — Leg Grab Escape / Leg Trap Escape
Both the leg grab and leg trap escapes involve controlling the opponent’s lower body to reduce the effectiveness of their hooks. By holding or pinning one or both legs while turning or spinning, the defender can slide out from underneath the opponent’s control. These escapes are highly tactical, combining leg manipulation with upper-body awareness to prevent counterattacks.
Using the legs effectively in back escape demonstrates BJJ’s principle of neutralizing leverage points. By taking away the hooks or controlling leg placement, the defender can make the back mount unstable, allowing for safe recovery or positional reversal. These techniques are especially useful against opponents with strong top control and tight back pressure.
